Families of children with autism have opportunities to interact with peers, gain skills and share their experiences at the Centre's dedicated Family Night.
We've switched to Tuesday nights!
Parent Support Group
This is an informal opportunity for parents to meet and share experiences as well as discuss present and future challenges. Parents can learn coping skills as well as how to advocate for their child. The group will provide hope and increase a sense of belonging.
Sibling Support Group (5 years and up - younger kids attend socialization)
This is an opportunity to meet other siblings of children with autism, which will reduce a sense of isolation. The group will discuss common joys and concerns of having a sibling with autism. Participants will learn how others handle situations commonly experienced by siblings. As well, there will be discussion about the implication of their sibling’s special needs. Participants will learn coping skills.
Socialization Group (no age limit)
Children and teens will participate in activities including games, crafts and music with an emphasis on socialization. The Socialization Group will be divided into age appropriate groupings, including peers and siblings, with opportunities for socialization. Siblings under the age of five can participate in this group.
Dates: Tuesdays, Feb. 7, March 6, April 3, May 1 and June 5
Time: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Location: The Centre for Autism Services Alberta, 4752-99 St.

Centre-Based Respite
The Centre for Autism Services Alberta is pleased to offer respite, which provides families with short-term temporary relief allowing parents time to rest, relax and rejuvenate. As a part of this program, familes will receive one 5-hour period of sheduled Centre-based respite per month. While parents are allotted time to relax, children are give the opportunity to develop social interaction skills and recreational activities in a supervised supported setting.
In order to truly allow parents time to rest, we welcome sibilngs to participate in this program as well. All siblings, 3 years of age (must be toiled-trained) through to 12 years of age are welcome to attend.
Transportation to and from the Centre is the responsibility of the family. Children may be picked up earlier than 5:30 p.m., however all children must be picked up no later than 5:30 p.m. The Centre's respite program will be staffed by aides and volunteers.
