INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A STUDY ON AUTISM

PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY

The purpose of this study is to examine the roles, tasks and experiences of family caregiving for a young person with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study will lead to increased awareness about the experiences and needs in supporting families in which a young person has ASD. It is hoped that the study ultimately will contribute to better resources and services for families.

WHO IS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE

We are inviting mothers of children with autism to take part in an interview which will address issues about caring for a child with autism. The interview will take about two hours and can done at home, work or clinic, depending on what is most convenient for participants.

Some participants may be invited to take part in a second phase of the study which involves a member of our research team observing different aspects of family life such as caregiving, interaction in and out of the home, leisure time, meals, autism-related support activities, etc. Please keep in mind that research participation in the initial interview, does not require being a part of the second part of this study.
